WELCOME TO MISTERTON

A thriving village with lots going on in the community; full details can be seen in the monthly magazine delivered to your door at the beginning of the month (see separate section for contact details). The village web site contains valuable information about the village (for details of the web site, see the Parish Council section in this leaflet).

Allotments are based at Park View, Silver Street and at the side of the village hall (enquiries Graham White 01460 76081or Steve Lyus 01460 78526 respectively).

Baby and Toddler Group, Misterton

Children from 0-5years and their parents/carers/grandparents welcome. £2 per family including free tea/coffee and cakes/bakes available for a donation. We are a friendly, relaxed group where people can come together for play, coffee and a chat.

Fridays 1:30pm-3pm (term-time only) at Misterton Village Hall.

Badminton Groups - Misterton Village Hall, Unity Lane

Badminton takes place every Tuesday evening - 7.30 p.m. - Contact - 01460 74575. All ages welcome. Spare racquets are held by the Group. It is a fun evening - not serious. Come and join us old uns!!

Baptist Chapel - Crewkerne

Breeze Dance Company – Village Hall, Unity Lane

This dance class is run for boys and girls aged 4 - adults and takes place every Wednesday from 4.00 p.m. – 8.30 p.m. - £3.50 per class. For further information Contact Joanne Sivell - 01460 73662.

Bus Stops – are situated outside The Swan, The Globe and entrance to the Station, providing services to Yeovil, Chard, Taunton, etc. (Time tables available from the Community Office in Crewkerne or www.aboutcrewkerne.co.uk.)

Farmers Market, Crewkerne are held at the Henhayes Centre on the 3rd Saturday of every month. Established in 2000 Somerset Farmers’ Markets, a not-for-profit organisation, boasts a range of high quality, fresh, local food from award winning cheese to buffalo burgers! Fete Committee

FoMCC

Friends of Misterton Cemetery Chapel was formed to preserve the Cemetery Chapel. Contact John Hanson, Secretary - 01460 72592 if you would like to become a member. Cleaning Roster - Volunteers always needed - Contact Helena Tuck - 01460 72592.

Flower Guild

We are a group of 15 people who arrange flowers at the altar in St Leonard’s Church on a rota basis throughout the year and decorate the whole church for Easter, Harvest Festival and Christmas. By special arrangement the church can be decorated for village weddings and funerals. We hold various fund raising events to pay for the flowers at Easter, Harvest and Christmas and for Misterton Flower Festival which is held in and around the church biennually. Friends of Crewkerne Station (FOCS)

Ÿ To promote practical environmental enhancement works especially by volunteers for the benefit of the community and train passengers.

Ÿ To publicise and raise awareness of the benefits of ‘green transport plans’, the train, and attractions of the station area and its environs to increase station footfall’.

Ÿ To encourage community involvement and ownership of the station

Ÿ To campaign for improved infrastructure facilities and services.

Ÿ To work in partnership with ALL stakeholders to achieve these aims.

Football Club - Misterton Recreation Ground, Unity Lane. Football matches held every Saturday afternoon during the football season; September - May. Training takes place once a week on Tuesday evenings 6.30 pm start when possible. There is one team in the 1st Division and one team in the 2nd Division of the Perry Street & District Football League. Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to play and any age very welcome to come and train. Always good to see new players. Contact Ben Rousell on01460 76973/07855 965922.

Gardening Club - WI Hall, Middle Street

The Gardening Club meets on the last Friday of the month starting at 7.30 p.m. Anyone wishing to join should Contact Diana Dyke on 77233.

The Harvest Supper is held annually on the 2nd Tuesday of October and is organised by the Parochial Church Council with proceeds going to a nominated charity. Details appear in the village magazine.

Mah Jong Group

The Mah Jong Group meets at Clapton Village Hall at 2.00 p.m. every Thursday. Anyone from Misterton would be very welcome and transport can be arranged if needed. New members very welcome. If you are interested Contact Iain Rowland - 01460 78951

Misterton Church of England First School

The majority of children starting school in September are aged 4 and will all turn 5 in the first year at school. For further information regarding the school, please contact Diane Hunt 01460 72745.

Misterton Village Emergency Plan (MPEP)

This is a parish approved emergency plan to support the parish and its parishioners in the event of an emergency. It has been set up by an Emergency Team meeting and reporting back to the Parish Council with input from emergency services and other local agencies. The Plan is available on the parish website or a hard copy is available from any of the Emergency Team (ET) members, who can be contacted as follows:

The Plan covers what to do in most emergencies from fire and flood to ad-verse weather, rail and road accidents as well as who to contact and what community facilities are available.

Parish Council

The Parish Council meets on the third Tuesday of every month in the WI Hall, Middle Street starting at 6.30 p.m. The meetings start with Public Question Time (15 mins) for villagers to ask questions or raise issues.

Re-cycling Centre, Blacknell Lane, Crewkerneis open Monday (8-7), Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday (8-4), Sunday (8-1) and closed on Thursday and Friday. Entry is by meter at £2 per visit. Extra for builder’s rubble.

Sequence Dance Group - Misterton Village Hall, Unity Lane

On alternate Saturdays the Sequence Dance Group meets in the Village Hall - 7.30 p.m. until 1015 p.m. This is a non-profit making group and the charge is just £1.50 per evening. Anyone interested please Contact Mr & Mrs Vincent - 01308 425509

Village Hall/Recreation Ground Booking a large capacity hall which is managed by the Village Hall Committee, with adjoining recreation ground and children’s playground (which are managed by the Parish Council). There are also tennis courts (see separate section) which are managed by the Tennis Club Committee. A MUGA (multi-use games area) was installed in 2013 and has proved a very popular asset – please look after it. To book the Village Hall - Contact Joan Sweetman – 01460 74994.

The Recreation Ground is for the enjoyment of all but for a major event, it must be booked through the Parish Clerk, 07917 753361.

A monthly magazine to keep you informed of what’s going on in Misterton.

WI Hall Bookings

Anyone wishing to book the WI Hall please Contact Margaret Small on 01460 78453 or at smallmargaret47@gmail.com. The hall is ideal for the smaller event and is often used for family gatherings. The current rate is £8 per hour.

Women’s Institute - WI Hall, Middle Street

The Women’s Institute hold their meetings on the 1st Tuesday of every month starting at 7.15 p.m. New members always welcome. Contact – Susan May (President) on 01460 73934 or Carol Walker (Secretary) - 01460 74808 for more information.

The WI also hold monthly coffee mornings on the 1st Wednesday of each month (10-12) where you can enjoy a coffee and a natter; there is usually a Bring & Buy Stall and “kitchen store cupboard” raffle. They also hold occasional Afternoon Teas, light lunches, jumble sales and other fund raising events.
